Support Worker roles in Ferndown

Protocol Healthcare Services recruits Support Workers in and around Ferndown for mental health services, learning disability support and community settings. The work is about helping people live the life they want, with as much independence as possible.

Where you would be based in Ferndown

Work comes up near Ferndown Town Centre, West Parley and Longham, much of it within reach of Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Between University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust and Dorset Council, most of what we staff around West Moors sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Ferndown Town Centre, West Parley and Longham one week, West Moors, Trickett's Cross and Dudsbury the next. If you are based around BH22 or BH22, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.

What the role involves

  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training

Hours, shifts and contracts

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Dudsbury is easier for you to reach than Stapehill, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Stapehill.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Ferndown Town Centre and West Moors first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

Who we are looking for

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support

Why people stay with us

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Dorset shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Ferndown itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Wimborne, Verwood and Ringwood as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Ferndown.

Tell us which parts of Dorset you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
