Support Worker roles in Swanage

Protocol Healthcare Services recruits Support Workers in and around Swanage for mental health services, learning disability support and community settings. The work is about helping people live the life they want, with as much independence as possible.

Working around Swanage

Work comes up near Swanage Town Centre, Herston and Durlston, much of it within reach of Poole Hospital. Between University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust and Dorset Council, most of what we staff around New Swanage sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Swanage Town Centre, Herston and Durlston one week, New Swanage, Ulwell and The Seafront the next. If you are based around BH19 or BH19, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.

A typical shift

  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making

Shifts and contracts

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If The Seafront is easier for you to reach than Langton Matravers, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Langton Matravers.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Swanage Town Centre and New Swanage first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

What you will need

  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support
  • Good communication skills

How we work with you

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Dorset shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Swanage itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Poole, Wareham and Christchurch as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Swanage.

Tell us which parts of Dorset you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
