Support Worker roles in Port Talbot
Protocol Healthcare Services recruits Support Workers in and around Port Talbot for mental health services, learning disability support and community settings. The work is about helping people live the life they want, with as much independence as possible.
Where the work is in Port Talbot
Work comes up near Aberavon, Sandfields and Baglan, much of it within reach of Neath Port Talbot Hospital. Between Swansea Bay University Health Board and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, most of what we staff around Margam sits under one of the two.
Shifts land right across the patch: Aberavon, Sandfields and Baglan one week, Margam, Taibach and Cwmavon the next. If you are based around SA12 or SA13, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.
The job day to day
- ✓ Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
- ✓ Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
- ✓ Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
- ✓ Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
- ✓ Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
- ✓ Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
When you would work
Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Cwmavon is easier for you to reach than Port Talbot Town, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Port Talbot Town.
We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Aberavon and Margam first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.
Before you apply
- ✓Good communication skills
- ✓Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
- ✓An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
- ✓The right to work in the UK
- ✓Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Neath Port Talbot shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Port Talbot itself, which we would rather say plainly.
If you can travel, there is steady work in Neath, Swansea and Bridgend as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Port Talbot.
