Healthcare Assistant roles in Newport

Healthcare Assistant work in Newport is one of the most direct ways into a career in care. Protocol Healthcare Services recruits HCAs for temporary and permanent positions, with full training provided and a consultant who knows which settings suit you.

Newport and the area we cover

Royal Gwent Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Caerleon and St Julians draw staff from the same pool. Aneurin Bevan University Health Board runs services locally, with Newport City Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Caerleon, Maindee and St Julians, with regular work further out at Bassaleg, Rogerstone and Malpas. Postings run across South Wales.

What you would be doing

  • Taking and recording clinical observations under supervision
  • Companionship, conversation and keeping people connected
  • Reporting changes and keeping clear records
  • Helping people wash, dress and stay comfortable
  • Supporting with meals, drinks and nutrition
  • Assisting with mobility and safe moving and handling

Shifts, and how they are booked

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Rogerstone on earlies and Malpas on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Caerleon and Ringland.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around St Julians to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

What we look for

  • Good spoken and written communication
  • Previous care experience is welcome but not essential, as training is provided
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • A caring, patient and reliable approach

What we do for you

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which South Wales services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Newport itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Cwmbran, Caerphilly and Cardiff are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Newport both.

Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from Caerleon, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
