Nurse roles in Newport

Protocol Healthcare Services is looking for dedicated, compassionate and professional Registered Nurses to work in and around Newport. We place nurses on both agency and permanent contracts, so whether you want to pick up shifts around other commitments or move into a settled post, there is a route for you.

Where the work is in Newport

Work comes up near Caerleon, Maindee and St Julians, much of it within reach of Royal Gwent Hospital. Between Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Newport City Council, most of what we staff around Bassaleg sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Caerleon, Maindee and St Julians one week, Bassaleg, Rogerstone and Malpas the next. South Wales is well within the area we cover.

The job day to day

  • Wound care, catheter care and other clinical tasks within your competence
  • Working alongside GPs, district nurses and multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting and supervising care and support staff on shift
  • Accurate record keeping and handover
  • Assessing, planning and reviewing care for the people you look after
  • Medication administration and clinical observations

When you would work

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Malpas is easier for you to reach than Ringland, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Ringland.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Caerleon and Bassaleg first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

Before you apply

  • Experience in community, elderly or end-of-life care is desirable, but not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills

Working with Protocol

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your South Wales shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Newport itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Cwmbran, Caerphilly and Cardiff as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Newport.

Tell us which parts of South Wales you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.

Day, night and weekend shifts, on full-time and part-time patterns. You set your availability and we work to it. Once you are established we can offer regular ongoing shifts rather than one-offs.

Both. We recruit for temporary and permanent positions, and many people start on agency shifts around Newport before moving into a permanent post once they have found a service that suits them.

We have immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Once your registration, right-to-work and DBS checks are in place, shifts can usually follow quickly. Call 020 8951 4510 or send us your details to get started.
