Care Home roles in Sunderland

If you want care home work in Sunderland, on days, nights or weekends, Protocol Healthcare Services can put you in front of the settings that are hiring. We recruit across the whole team, from Healthcare Assistants through to Registered Nurses.

Sunderland and the area we cover

Sunderland Royal Hospital anchors a good deal of the health provision around Roker and Seaburn, and the settings we recruit for sit close to it. Sunderland City Council commissions much of the care in the area, and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust runs the clinical side.

We fill posts in Roker, Seaburn, Fulwell and Monkwearmouth and out towards Southwick, Hendon and Ryhope. Work extends across Tyne and Wear.

What you would be doing

  • Supporting residents at mealtimes and with nutrition
  • Mobility support and safe moving and handling
  • Medication support appropriate to your role and training
  • Activities, companionship and keeping families informed
  • Clear record keeping and handover between shifts
  • Personal care, washing, dressing and continence support

Shifts, and how they are booked

You set your availability. Plenty of the people we place around Southwick work three or four shifts and keep the rest of the week their own. Most people settle into a handful of regular services, often within a few miles of Fulwell.

Agency and permanent are both on offer. Picking up shifts in two or three services around Seaburn is a low-risk way to find out where you want to be.

What we look for

  • NMC registration if you are applying for a Registered Nurse post
  • Previous care home experience is helpful but not always required
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Reliability and a genuinely person-centred approach

What we do for you

One consultant looks after you, knows the difference between the services in Roker and Southwick, and is reachable when a shift throws something up. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Sunderland itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Work in South Shields and Gateshead often suits the same people, so tell us how far you are willing to go.

Send your availability and what you are qualified for, and a consultant will call you back about work around Monkwearmouth. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
