Support Worker roles in Shrewsbury

Support Worker roles in Shrewsbury cover a lot of ground: supported living, mental health services, learning disability support and community teams. Protocol Healthcare Services places people on agency shifts and in permanent posts across all of it.

Working around Shrewsbury

Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Abbey Foregate and Coleham draw staff from the same pool. Telford Hospital NHS Trust runs services locally, with Shropshire Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Abbey Foregate, Castlefields and Coleham, with regular work further out at Copthorne, Monkmoor and Meole Brace. Postings run through SY1, SY2 and SY3, including out at Belle Vue.

A typical shift

  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team

Shifts and contracts

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Monkmoor on earlies and Meole Brace on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Abbey Foregate and Harlescott.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Coleham to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

What you will need

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support

How we work with you

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which Shropshire services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Shrewsbury itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Telford, Wrexham and Stafford are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Shrewsbury both.

Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from Abbey Foregate, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
