Nurse roles in Durham

Protocol Healthcare Services is looking for dedicated, compassionate and professional Registered Nurses to work in and around Durham. We place nurses on both agency and permanent contracts, so whether you want to pick up shifts around other commitments or move into a settled post, there is a route for you.

Working around Durham

Work comes up near Gilesgate, Neville's Cross and Framwellgate Moor, much of it within reach of University Hospital. Between Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and Durham County Council, most of what we staff around Newton Hall sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Gilesgate, Neville's Cross and Framwellgate Moor one week, Newton Hall, Belmont and Crossgate Moor the next. If you are based around DH1 or DH6, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.

A typical shift

  • Wound care, catheter care and other clinical tasks within your competence
  • Working alongside GPs, district nurses and multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting and supervising care and support staff on shift
  • Accurate record keeping and handover
  • Assessing, planning and reviewing care for the people you look after
  • Medication administration and clinical observations

Shifts and contracts

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Crossgate Moor is easier for you to reach than Shincliffe, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Shincliffe.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Gilesgate and Newton Hall first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

What you will need

  • Experience in community, elderly or end-of-life care is desirable, but not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills

How we work with you

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your County Durham shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Durham itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Sunderland, Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Durham.

Tell us which parts of County Durham you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
