Healthcare Assistant roles in Stoke-on-Trent

Healthcare Assistant work in Stoke-on-Trent is one of the most direct ways into a career in care. Protocol Healthcare Services recruits HCAs for temporary and permanent positions, with full training provided and a consultant who knows which settings suit you.

Working around Stoke-on-Trent

Royal Stoke University Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Hanley and Tunstall draw staff from the same pool. North Midlands NHS Trust runs services locally, with Stoke-on-Trent City Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Hanley, Burslem and Tunstall, with regular work further out at Longton, Fenton and Stoke. Postings run through ST1 and ST6, including out at Meir.

A typical shift

  • Helping people wash, dress and stay comfortable
  • Supporting with meals, drinks and nutrition
  • Assisting with mobility and safe moving and handling
  • Taking and recording clinical observations under supervision
  • Companionship, conversation and keeping people connected
  • Reporting changes and keeping clear records

Shifts and contracts

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Fenton on earlies and Stoke on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Hanley and Trentham.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Tunstall to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

What you will need

  • Previous care experience is welcome but not essential, as training is provided
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • A caring, patient and reliable approach
  • Good spoken and written communication

How we work with you

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which Staffordshire services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Stoke-on-Trent itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Crewe, Stafford and Macclesfield are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Stoke-on-Trent both.

Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from Hanley, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
