Healthcare Assistant roles in Southampton
Protocol Healthcare Services places Healthcare Assistants in and around Southampton, on agency shifts and in permanent roles. You do not need years of experience to start: what matters most is reliability, patience and a genuine interest in the people you look after.
Working around Southampton
Work comes up near Portswood, Highfield and Shirley, much of it within reach of Southampton General Hospital. Between University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Southampton City Council, most of what we staff around Freemantle sits under one of the two.
Shifts land right across the patch: Portswood, Highfield and Shirley one week, Freemantle, Bassett and Bitterne the next. If you are based around SO14 or SO19, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.
A typical shift
- ✓ Assisting with mobility and safe moving and handling
- ✓ Taking and recording clinical observations under supervision
- ✓ Companionship, conversation and keeping people connected
- ✓ Reporting changes and keeping clear records
- ✓ Helping people wash, dress and stay comfortable
- ✓ Supporting with meals, drinks and nutrition
Shifts and contracts
Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Bitterne is easier for you to reach than Bitterne Park, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Bitterne Park.
We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Portswood and Freemantle first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.
What you will need
- ✓Previous care experience is welcome but not essential, as training is provided
- ✓An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
- ✓The right to work in the UK
- ✓A caring, patient and reliable approach
- ✓Good spoken and written communication
How we work with you
We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Hampshire shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Southampton itself, which we would rather say plainly.
If you can travel, there is steady work in Winchester, Lymington and Portsmouth as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Southampton.
Tell us which parts of Hampshire you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
