Support Worker roles in Stockton-on-Tees

Support Worker roles in Stockton-on-Tees cover a lot of ground: supported living, mental health services, learning disability support and community teams. Protocol Healthcare Services places people on agency shifts and in permanent posts across all of it.

Where you would be based in Stockton-on-Tees

University Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Norton and Billingham draw staff from the same pool. Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust runs services locally, with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Norton, Thornaby and Billingham, with regular work further out at Ingleby Barwick, Yarm and Eaglescliffe. Postings run through TS22, TS19 and TS17, including out at Hardwick.

What the role involves

  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community

Hours, shifts and contracts

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Yarm on earlies and Eaglescliffe on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Norton and Fairfield.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Billingham to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

Who we are looking for

  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support
  • Good communication skills

Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Darlington are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Stockton-on-Tees both.
