Support Worker roles in Middlesbrough

Support Worker roles in Middlesbrough cover a lot of ground: supported living, mental health services, learning disability support and community teams. Protocol Healthcare Services places people on agency shifts and in permanent posts across all of it.

Where you would be based in Middlesbrough

The James Cook University Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Linthorpe and Marton draw staff from the same pool. South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs services locally, with Middlesbrough Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Linthorpe, Acklam and Marton, with regular work further out at Nunthorpe, Coulby Newham and Hemlington. Postings run across Teesside.

What the role involves

  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community

Hours, shifts and contracts

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Coulby Newham on earlies and Hemlington on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Linthorpe and North Ormesby.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Marton to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

Who we are looking for

  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support
  • Good communication skills

Why people stay with us

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which Teesside services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Middlesbrough itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool and Darlington are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Middlesbrough both.

Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from Linthorpe, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
