Support Worker roles in Peterborough

Support Worker roles in Peterborough cover a lot of ground: supported living, mental health services, learning disability support and community teams. Protocol Healthcare Services places people on agency shifts and in permanent posts across all of it.

Where the work is in Peterborough

Peterborough City Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Werrington and Orton draw staff from the same pool. North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust runs services locally, with Peterborough City Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Werrington, Bretton and Orton, with regular work further out at Stanground, Longthorpe and Paston. Postings run through PE4, PE3 and PE2, including out at Woodston.

The job day to day

  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team

When you would work

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Longthorpe on earlies and Paston on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Werrington and Dogsthorpe.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Orton to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

Before you apply

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support

Working with Protocol

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which East of England services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Peterborough itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Corby, Kettering and King's Lynn are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Peterborough both.

Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from Werrington, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
