Where you would be based in Bury St Edmunds

West Suffolk Hospital anchors a good deal of the health provision around Moreton Hall and Northgate, and the settings we recruit for sit close to it. Suffolk County Council commissions much of the care in the area, and West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust runs the clinical side.

We fill posts in Moreton Hall, Northgate, Southgate and Westgate and out towards Fornham, Great Barton and Horringer. IP28 and IP33 come up most often, and work extends through Suffolk.

What the role involves

  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed

Hours, shifts and contracts

You set your availability. Plenty of the people we place around Fornham work three or four shifts and keep the rest of the week their own. Most people settle into a handful of regular services, often within a few miles of Southgate.

Agency and permanent are both on offer. Picking up shifts in two or three services around Northgate is a low-risk way to find out where you want to be.

Who we are looking for

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support

Work in Ipswich and Cambridge often suits the same people, so tell us how far you are willing to go.
