Working around Colchester
Work comes up near Lexden, Greenstead and Highwoods, much of it within reach of Colchester Hospital. Between North Essex NHS Foundation Trust and Essex County Council, most of what we staff around Prettygate sits under one of the two.
Shifts land right across the patch: Lexden, Greenstead and Highwoods one week, Prettygate, Shrub End and Stanway the next. If you are based around CO1 or CO2, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.
A typical shift
- ✓ Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
- ✓ Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
- ✓ Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
- ✓ Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
- ✓ Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
- ✓ Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
Shifts and contracts
Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Stanway is easier for you to reach than Mile End, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Mile End.
We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Lexden and Prettygate first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.
What you will need

- ✓Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
How we work with you
We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Essex shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Colchester itself, which we would rather say plainly.
If you can travel, there is steady work in Ipswich, Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Colchester.
