If you are an NMC-registered nurse living in or near Plymouth, we would like to hear from you. Protocol Healthcare Services supplies nurses to community and healthcare settings across the UK, on temporary contracts, permanent contracts, or a mix of the two while you work out what suits.
Plymouth and the area we cover
Derriford Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Plymstock and Devonport draw staff from the same pool. University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust runs services locally, with Plymouth City Council commissioning the social care alongside them.
Most placements are in Plymstock, Plympton and Devonport, with regular work further out at Stonehouse, Stoke and Mutley. Postings run through PL1, including out at Peverell.
What you would be doing
- ✓ Working alongside GPs, district nurses and multidisciplinary teams
- ✓ Supporting and supervising care and support staff on shift
- ✓ Accurate record keeping and handover
- ✓ Assessing, planning and reviewing care for the people you look after
- ✓ Medication administration and clinical observations
- ✓ Wound care, catheter care and other clinical tasks within your competence
Shifts, and how they are booked
Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Stoke on earlies and Mutley on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Plymstock and Mannamead.
Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Devonport to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

- ✓An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
- ✓Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- ✓The right to work in the UK
- ✓Excellent clinical and communication skills
- ✓Experience in community, elderly or end-of-life care is desirable, but not essential

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which Devon services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Plymouth itself, which we would rather say plainly.
