Nurse roles in Merthyr Tydfil

If you are an NMC-registered nurse living in or near Merthyr Tydfil, we would like to hear from you. Protocol Healthcare Services supplies nurses to community and healthcare settings across the UK, on temporary contracts, permanent contracts, or a mix of the two while you work out what suits.

Where you would be based in Merthyr Tydfil

Prince Charles Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Dowlais and Gurnos draw staff from the same pool. Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board runs services locally, with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council commissioning the social care alongside them.

Most placements are in Dowlais, Penydarren and Gurnos, with regular work further out at Cyfarthfa, Cefn Coed and Troedyrhiw. Postings run through CF47 and CF48, including out at Merthyr Vale.

What the role involves

  • Working alongside GPs, district nurses and multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting and supervising care and support staff on shift
  • Accurate record keeping and handover
  • Assessing, planning and reviewing care for the people you look after
  • Medication administration and clinical observations
  • Wound care, catheter care and other clinical tasks within your competence

Hours, shifts and contracts

Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Cefn Coed on earlies and Troedyrhiw on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Dowlais and Aberfan.

Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Gurnos to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

Who we are looking for

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills
  • Experience in community, elderly or end-of-life care is desirable, but not essential
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange

Why people stay with us

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which Wales services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Merthyr Tydfil itself, which we would rather say plainly.

Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Cwmbran are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Merthyr Tydfil both.

Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from Dowlais, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
