York Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around Acomb and Fulford draw staff from the same pool. Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs services locally, with York Council commissioning the social care alongside them.
Most placements are in Acomb, Clifton and Fulford, with regular work further out at Heworth, Bishopthorpe and Haxby. Postings run through YO1, YO24 and YO26, including out at Wigginton.
What you would be doing
- ✓ Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
- ✓ Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
- ✓ Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
- ✓ Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
- ✓ Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
- ✓ Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
Shifts, and how they are booked
Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Bishopthorpe on earlies and Haxby on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between Acomb and Heslington.
Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around Fulford to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.

You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which North Yorkshire services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in York itself, which we would rather say plainly.
Harrogate, Castleford and Pontefract are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and York both.
