Protocol Healthcare Services recruits Support Workers in and around Medway for mental health services, learning disability support and community settings. The work is about helping people live the life they want, with as much independence as possible.
Medway and the area we cover
Work comes up near Chatham, Gillingham and Rochester, much of it within reach of Medway Maritime Hospital. Between Medway NHS Foundation Trust and Medway Council, most of what we staff around Strood sits under one of the two.
Shifts land right across the patch: Chatham, Gillingham and Rochester one week, Strood, Rainham and Walderslade the next. Kent is well within the area we cover.
What you would be doing
- ✓ Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
- ✓ Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
- ✓ Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making
- ✓ Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
- ✓ Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
- ✓ Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
Shifts, and how they are booked
Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Walderslade is easier for you to reach than Wainscott, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Wainscott.
We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Chatham and Strood first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

- ✓Good communication skills
- ✓Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential
- ✓An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange

What we do for you
We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Kent shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Medway itself, which we would rather say plainly.
If you can travel, there is steady work in Maidstone, Basildon and Southend-on-Sea as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Medway.
