Support Worker roles in Hamilton

Protocol Healthcare Services recruits Support Workers in and around Hamilton for mental health services, learning disability support and community settings. The work is about helping people live the life they want, with as much independence as possible.

Where the work is in Hamilton

Work comes up near Burnbank, Hillhouse and Whitehill, much of it within reach of University Hospital. Between South Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire Council, most of what we staff around Earnock sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Burnbank, Hillhouse and Whitehill one week, Earnock, Fairhill and Eddlewood the next. If you are based around ML3 or ML3, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.

The job day to day

  • Supporting people to access work, education, activities and their community
  • Positive behaviour support and de-escalation, with training provided
  • Medication prompting and support appropriate to your training
  • Accurate notes and clear communication with the wider team
  • Supporting people with daily routines and personal care where needed
  • Encouraging independence, choice and everyday decision making

When you would work

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Eddlewood is easier for you to reach than Low Waters, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Low Waters.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Burnbank and Earnock first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

Before you apply

  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Patience, resilience and respect for the people you support
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in mental health or learning disability support is desirable, not essential

Working with Protocol

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your South Lanarkshire shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Hamilton itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Motherwell, East Kilbride and Glasgow as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Hamilton.

Tell us which parts of South Lanarkshire you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
