Nurse roles in Bristol
Protocol Healthcare Services is looking for dedicated, compassionate and professional Registered Nurses to work in and around Bristol. We place nurses on both agency and permanent contracts, so whether you want to pick up shifts around other commitments or move into a settled post, there is a route for you.
Working around Bristol
Work comes up near Clifton, Hotwells and Bedminster, much of it within reach of Bristol Royal Infirmary. Between Weston NHS Foundation Trust and Bristol City Council, most of what we staff around Southville sits under one of the two.
Shifts land right across the patch: Clifton, Hotwells and Bedminster one week, Southville, Redland and Bishopston the next. If you are based around BS1 or BS4, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.
A typical shift
- ✓ Wound care, catheter care and other clinical tasks within your competence
- ✓ Working alongside GPs, district nurses and multidisciplinary teams
- ✓ Supporting and supervising care and support staff on shift
- ✓ Accurate record keeping and handover
- ✓ Assessing, planning and reviewing care for the people you look after
- ✓ Medication administration and clinical observations
Shifts and contracts
Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Bishopston is easier for you to reach than Henleaze, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Henleaze.
We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Clifton and Southville first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.
What you will need
- ✓An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
- ✓Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- ✓The right to work in the UK
- ✓Excellent clinical and communication skills
- ✓Experience in community, elderly or end-of-life care is desirable, but not essential
How we work with you
We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your South West England shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Bristol itself, which we would rather say plainly.
If you can travel, there is steady work in Weston-super-Mare, Newport and Chippenham as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Bristol.
Tell us which parts of South West England you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.

Day, night and weekend shifts, on full-time and part-time patterns. You set your availability and we work to it. Once you are established we can offer regular ongoing shifts rather than one-offs.
Both. We recruit for temporary and permanent positions, and many people start on agency shifts around Bristol before moving into a permanent post once they have found a service that suits them.
Across nursing homes, residential services, supported living, community teams and NHS settings. In practice that means Clifton, Hotwells, Bedminster, Southville and Redland, covering BS1, BS4, BS9 and BS3, and out into South West England. Bristol Royal Infirmary is the main hospital in the area.
We have immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Once your registration, right-to-work and DBS checks are in place, shifts can usually follow quickly. Call 020 8951 4510 or send us your details to get started.
