Care Home roles in Canterbury

Protocol Healthcare Services recruits for nursing and residential homes in and around Canterbury, covering everything from a single shift to a permanent contract. We place Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, senior carers and support staff.

Where the work is in Canterbury

Work comes up near Wincheap, St Stephen's and Hales Place, much of it within reach of Canterbury Hospital. Between East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and Kent County Council, most of what we staff around Thanington sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Wincheap, St Stephen's and Hales Place one week, Thanington, Harbledown and Blean the next. If you are based around CT1 or CT4, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.

The job day to day

  • Mobility support and safe moving and handling
  • Medication support appropriate to your role and training
  • Activities, companionship and keeping families informed
  • Clear record keeping and handover between shifts
  • Personal care, washing, dressing and continence support
  • Supporting residents at mealtimes and with nutrition

When you would work

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Blean is easier for you to reach than Sturry, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Sturry.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Wincheap and Thanington first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

Before you apply

  • Previous care home experience is helpful but not always required
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Reliability and a genuinely person-centred approach
  • NMC registration if you are applying for a Registered Nurse post

Working with Protocol

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Kent shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Canterbury itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Maidstone, Southend-on-Sea and Medway as well, and many people cover two of those alongside Canterbury.

Tell us which parts of Kent you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
