Healthcare Assistant roles in St Helens

Protocol Healthcare Services places Healthcare Assistants in and around St Helens, on agency shifts and in permanent roles. You do not need years of experience to start: what matters most is reliability, patience and a genuine interest in the people you look after.

Where you would be based in St Helens

Work comes up near Thatto Heath, Parr and Sutton, much of it within reach of Whiston Hospital. Between West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and St Helens Borough Council, most of what we staff around Eccleston sits under one of the two.

Shifts land right across the patch: Thatto Heath, Parr and Sutton one week, Eccleston, Rainhill and Whiston the next. If you are based around L35 or WA10, you are inside the area we cover most heavily.

What the role involves

  • Reporting changes and keeping clear records
  • Helping people wash, dress and stay comfortable
  • Supporting with meals, drinks and nutrition
  • Assisting with mobility and safe moving and handling
  • Taking and recording clinical observations under supervision
  • Companionship, conversation and keeping people connected

Hours, shifts and contracts

Full-time and part-time patterns both work. If Whiston is easier for you to reach than Haydock, say so and the rota follows it. Once you are established we keep the work regular rather than sporadic, usually in the same two or three services around Haydock.

We recruit for temporary and permanent posts. Trying several settings between Thatto Heath and Eccleston first tends to make the permanent choice obvious.

Who we are looking for

  • An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
  • The right to work in the UK
  • A caring, patient and reliable approach
  • Good spoken and written communication
  • Previous care experience is welcome but not essential, as training is provided

Why people stay with us

We are a two-office team, not a call centre. The person booking your Merseyside shifts knows which settings suit you. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in St Helens itself, which we would rather say plainly.

If you can travel, there is steady work in Widnes, Warrington and Wigan as well, and many people cover two of those alongside St Helens.

Tell us which parts of Merseyside you can reach and we will match you to what is open. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
