Healthcare Assistant roles in Exeter
Healthcare Assistant work in Exeter is one of the most direct ways into a career in care. Protocol Healthcare Services recruits HCAs for temporary and permanent positions, with full training provided and a consultant who knows which settings suit you.
Where you would be based in Exeter
Exeter Hospital is the hospital local teams work alongside, and the homes and services around St Leonard's and St Thomas draw staff from the same pool. Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs services locally, with Devon County Council commissioning the social care alongside them.
Most placements are in St Leonard's, Heavitree and St Thomas, with regular work further out at Pennsylvania, Exwick and Whipton. Postings run through EX1, EX2 and EX4, including out at Alphington.
What the role involves
- ✓ Taking and recording clinical observations under supervision
- ✓ Companionship, conversation and keeping people connected
- ✓ Reporting changes and keeping clear records
- ✓ Helping people wash, dress and stay comfortable
- ✓ Supporting with meals, drinks and nutrition
- ✓ Assisting with mobility and safe moving and handling
Hours, shifts and contracts
Days, nights and weekends are all available, full time or part time. Someone covering Exwick on earlies and Whipton on nights is an ordinary week here. The aim is ongoing work in settings you already know, not a different address every week between St Leonard's and Pinhoe.
Some people stay on agency indefinitely; others use a few months around St Thomas to find the right permanent home. Both are fine.
Who we are looking for
- ✓A caring, patient and reliable approach
- ✓Good spoken and written communication
- ✓Previous care experience is welcome but not essential, as training is provided
- ✓An enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange
- ✓The right to work in the UK
Why people stay with us
You get one consultant who knows your registration, your patch and which Devon services you have already worked in. We recruit from our offices in Edgware and Bournemouth and place people nationwide; there is no branch in Exeter itself, which we would rather say plainly.
Torquay, Taunton and Barnstaple are close enough that plenty of our people work across them and Exeter both.
Let us know your hours and how far you will travel from St Leonard's, and we will do the rest. There are immediate opportunities for suitable candidates. Call 020 8951 4510 or use the contact form.
